It became clear that the only way to get rid of the debt would be to earn more money so it was with a heavy heart that I began job hunting for something with more hours. At first I looked for things I could do around Mr Back to the Frugal's work hours but the more I looked the less of that sort of work there was, or if there was it wasn't secure work or had ridiculous hours or the expectation for you to be flexible and work at the drop of a hat. A few job openings came up at Mr Back to the Frugal's work place a few weeks ago and we decided that I should apply. I was successful which I was both excited and nervous about. It also meant that baby back to the frugal would need to go to some sort of child care during the days. The hours I do are Monday to Friday but with a rotating shift pattern between 8am and 8pm so actually pretty good hours. Mr Back to the Frugal finishes work before 3pm everyday so it works out that baby back to the frugal only needs to go into child care for a maximum of 7 hours some days and a minimum of 3 hours other days which gives me some comfort. I felt so guilty about leaving her in the care of some one else that I didn't want to be the one to ring nurseries or child minders. Mr Back to the Frugal was the one to make the phone calls and we went to view a couple of places. We found some where that we both like, has a good ofsted report and fits in with our shift work.
I started last Monday and have just completed my first week of training. It has been an emotional and exhausting week but it is definitely the right decision for our family. Baby back to the frugal is fifteen months old now and is into EVERYTHING! Her time at nursery more than caters for that as she pootles around all day in and outside with all of the other kids which are fast becoming her little play mates. The nursery keep us updated on her progress and she comes home exhausted each day but full of smiles when Mr Back to the Frugal goes to collect her. I admit, I spend a vast majority of my day wondering what she is up to at this moment and missing her cheeky grin, but I know we are all getting some independence and working towards our goal of becoming debt free and saving for a home. The job also looks like something I can progress with which is quite exciting for me as I haven't felt like this about a job for a while. My past roles have always been jobs but I can see this potentially becoming a career.
So that's me updated. Its been a whirl wind and proof that your life can change course within the space of a week. I hope you are all splendid. Thanks for stopping by.
